Physical Activity
As well as teaching physical education here in Kilconly N.S. we encourage our whole school community to be physically active each day. Here are some of the fun and inclusive ways that we are keeping active!
- Active Classroom Breaks
- Active Lunchtimes
- Active Travel to and from School
- Active Homework
Table Tennis Takeover!:
Anyone for table tennis? Yes-everyone! To mark European Week of Sport and National Fitness Day, on the 29th September every class ‘took over’ the 5th class classroom to give the game of table tennis a go. Our 5th class were wonderful active leaders and took on the roles of umpire and referee willingly. It’s clear to say our inaugural Table Tennis takeover event was a big hit with all pupils!
Our Spooky Dances There is never an opportunity missed by the pupils of St. Conleth’s to incorporate physical activity into their school work and school day! On the 27th October an active calendar event; the Halloween Spooktacular Dance offs were held in all classrooms. The most Spectacular Spooky female and male dance moves in each classroom received a small Halloween treat and were presented with a Dance Award certificate! All pupils had great fun displaying their fantastic dance moves and sequences at various stages throughout the day. |

Our Skipping Zone , Walk and Talk Zone, Yard Markings and Climbing Frame:
Our yard markings, climbing frame and newly purchased basketball hoops are proving a hit with our pupils. They are providing them with additional opportunities to be active and engage in a variety of different activities, namely basketball, the game squares, hula hoop games and skipping games during yard time! In St. Conleth’s we are always making a conscious effort to be active. Our Walk & Talk zone reminds us even when talking on yard, we continue to stay on the move!
The National Active Breaks Every Day Challenge
The pupils in St. Conleth’s NS had great fun participating in the National Active Breaks Every Day challenge from 27th November to 22nd December. They found it a terrific way to keep fit! Each class participated in a running break, a movement break on the Walkway route, a dance break and an indoor movement break daily. The senior classes in particular built up their walking and running skills by increasing the amount of laps walked or ran each week. All classes made use out of Just Dance videos on YouTube or the website GoNoodle for their daily dance break. The jam jar breaks were a great hit for the daily indoor movement break!
Active Lines initiative:
In St. Conleth’s NS we really value the importance of an active playground! We even like to remain active in our class lines! Our senior pupils were delighted to lead, guide and monitor our younger pupils and all the classes in a variety of exercises in their class lines before their teachers collected them and escorted them back to their classrooms. It was a great success! Take a look at our leaders in action!

Our 1st & 2nd class worked out the phrase which was to be unscrambled on the back of the laminated Easter eggs- I love The Easter Bunny!
Our senior pupils took part in an Easter Treasure Hunt, they solved clues left at the various points on the Active Walkway. Great fun was had by all pupils!
